Project Context
The beauty and skincare industries generate significant waste, with products often discarded after single use or upon expiration. Recognizing this environmental challenge, Cycle-Beauty reimagines how consumers interact with beauty products by introducing a circular model that integrates sustainable practices. Inspired by Accenture's Five Circular Business Models, this project explores solutions that not only reduce waste but also foster a sustainable, scalable ecosystem that benefits users, businesses, and the environment.

Research Process
The research began with a deep dive into consumer behaviors and industry challenges. Observations included:
The high volume of non-recyclable packaging waste.
Limited consumer awareness and incentives for sustainable practices.
Barriers in implementing efficient recycling systems.

Leveraging Accenture’s Five Circular Business Models as a theoretical framework, the study focused on resource recovery, product lifespan extension, and shared platforms. Additional insights came from analyzing analogous systems, such as subscription services in media and automated recycling infrastructures.

Design Proposal
Cycle-Beauty is a subscription-based system designed to transform the lifecycle of beauty products. By integrating concepts such as resource recovery, circular supply, and product-as-a-service, it redefines ownership and usage.

The system enables consumers to return used products for refilling or recycling, minimizing waste and fostering sustainable habits. Key features include automated kiosks for returns and exchanges, subscription discounts, and an ecosystem that bridges consumers and businesses.

Key Takeaways -
Systemic Change Requires Collaboration - Successful implementation relies on participation from consumers, businesses, and waste management partners.
Education and Incentives are Crucial - Encouraging consumers to adopt sustainable practices involves clear communication and tangible benefits like discounts or rewards.
Barriers to Entry Must Be Addressed - The initial setup cost and operational challenges of the system highlight the need for scalable, cost-effective solutions.
Potential for Broader Impact - Beyond beauty products, this model could extend to other industries, promoting sustainability on a larger scale.
